Cryptozoology buff and nature explorer Jason Kenzie is taking Sasquatch, Dogman and the Ozark Howler on a European vacation.
The early Christmas bonus came when both Searching for Sasquatch and Paranormal Adventures were picked up by Amazon Prime in Europe and the U.K. in November, thanks to distributors Thomas Marcum and Zombie Media.
“It’s tricky. You send it out there and it’s hit and miss. If they like it, then they’ll pick it up,” he said during a November Zoom call. “They picked up all of them. They picked them all, even the Paranormal Adventures ones.”
The Vancouver resident, originally from Chilliwack, is a photojournalist by profession and has long been drawn to the natural environment, pairing a sleuth’s mindset with a healthy dash of skepticism. It was a friend in England who first tipped him off to the streaming news.
But Kenzie didn’t realize his British friend was watching him on Amazon.
“When they were contacting me, saying, ‘Hey, I’m watching you on TV right now,’ I didn’t know it was Amazon Prime they were talking about,” he recalled.
Kenzie acknowledged there is often more appetite for paranormal content than his usual cryptozoological fare, but both worlds have loyal audiences. Interest in cryptids is also growing overseas, where Europe has its own deep well of lore, from the Beast of Bodmin Moor and the Beast of Gévaudan to the Tatzelwurm.
That curiosity has prompted him to expand his investigations into the U.K., including a planned exploration of Irish legends involving the abductions of men by vampire women, known as the Dearg-Due.
“I’m going there, and I’m going to put myself out in this field, by myself, to see what happens,” he said. “I’ll have cameras on m,e and we’re going to interview people.”
Paranormal Adventures explores local haunts in Kentucky, British Columbia and Indiana. For Searching for Sasquatch, Kenzie has travelled across North America, visiting Oregon, Minnesota, Florida and Michigan. Naturally, British Columbia remains the heart of his operations.
There are 17 episodes so far and he has no plans to slow down.
“I’m so excited. So excited,” he said, adding that four more episodes are already in the hopper. “You want to get on all the big screening platforms.”
Amazon Prime Europe is available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
